Pu-erh Tea, Chi and Meditation
The practice of drinking tea and meditating originated in China over the course of several thousand years. The extraordinary chi energy inherent to well grown, hand-picked and processed pu erh tea, aids in creating a meditative state for the drinker. As the drinker sips slowly on a chi rich cup of tea, the energy of each tea washes over his/her being, and builds on the drinker’s own energy. Some suggest that over time and with dedicated meditation and use of tea, the tea will help illuminate the path to enlightenment, even carrying us to the doorway. Once at the doorway however, it remains up to us to open it and walk through. The experience can be described as nothing less than peaceful and for many it is deeply meditative and refreshing. For those whom have trouble clearing their mind for meditation, pu erh tea is certainly one answer.
Tea and meditation works particularly well when practiced with other body chi enhancement martial arts, such as tai chi or internal kung fu. One criticism of our belief in cha chi (tea energy) is that this elusive “chi” is nothing more than the caffeine of tea. In response, researchers in the U.K. have found that well aged pu erh tea is actually caffeine free. So there is something much more powerful at work than a simple chemical process. There is something deeper. For pu erh teas, it is chi.
